Був соб╕ в одного чолов╕ка пес С╕рко - дуже старий. Узяв господар та й прогнав його геть. Ника╓ С╕рко по полю ╕ так йому г╕рко:"Ск╕льки рок╕в я господарев╕ служив, годив, добро йому стер╕г, а тепер на старост╕ л╕т в╕н мен╕ шматка хл╕ба жал╕╓ ╕ з двору жене". Ходить в╕н так, думу дума╓. Коли це йде вовк та й пита╓ його:
- Чого ти сумний тут ходиш?
С╕рко йому в╕дпов╕да╓:
- Що ж брате, прогнав мене господар. Тому й никаю туди-сюди. Тод╕ вовк йому:

There was once a man who had a dog named Sirko. The dog was very old and one day his master drove him out of the house. Sirko went roaming the fields and he felt very sad and woebegone. " I served my master for so many years and watched over his house," said he to himself, "and now that I'm old and weak he grudges me even a crust of bread and has driven me out the house." He wandered on, thinking these thoughts, when all of a sudden who should come up to him but a Wolf. "What are you doing, roaming about like that?" asked the Wolf. "There's nothing else I can do, for my master has driven me out of the house,"Sirko replied. The Wolf said: |
- А зробити так, щоб тебе господар знову взяв до себе?
С╕рко каже:
- Зроби, голубчику, весь в╕к буду тоб╕ дякувати.
Вовк ╕ каже:
- Слухай тод╕! Як вийде тв╕й господар ╕з ж╕нкою в поле жати ╕ вона покладе дитину п╕д копою, то ти будь десь близько, щоб я знав де те поле. Коли я схоплю дитину, а ти кинешся ╖╖ в╕дн╕мати, тод╕ я наче злякаюсь, та й пущу дитину.
